We don’t like labels at all, but if forced to use them, we proudly declare that “We’re a Conservative Liberal Church.” We are “conservative” in our theology & philosophy; “liberal” in our open & affirming support of those in marginalized communities.
Open Door Revival Center was Founded for a Purpose
On the One Hand…
Many of us had attended churches that were faithful to the Word of God. Jesus Christ was proclaimed to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). How wonderful!
But something was terribly wrong. These churches were often filled with self-righteous, self-proclaimed gate-keepers of the Kingdom of Heaven, who were ever ready to cast stones. They alienated us for not measuring up to their imposed “standards” — many of which we knew they fell short of themselves!
On the Other Hand…
Many of us attended churches where “ALL” were welcomed. Ostensibly, they were “unconditionally loving and accepting.” How awesome!
But alas, we discovered that these churches compromised the gospel by casting doubt on the inerrancy of Scripture. They questioned the divinity of Jesus, often denying His bodily resurrection. Furthermore, we found that these “unconditionally loving and accepting” churches can be every bit as excluding as the “conservative” churches we had escaped from! We were ostracized for our more conservative views — whether theological, political, or social.
There Had to be An Alternative
We needed a Jesus Christ-centered church that was “liberal” in its affirmation of those whom the church had historically excluded, while remaining firmly “conservative” regarding the uncompromisable tenets of Scripture, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and certain socio-political issues.
There had to be a church community that is TRULY open and accepting — a loving, Jesus Christ-centered church that fully welcomes “conservative liberal” believers and Biblically literate critical thinkers.
Enter Open Door Revival Center!
Open Door Revival Center is a rare church in today’s world. We’re a Conservative Liberal Church — “Conservative in our Beliefs. Liberal in our Open and Affirming Love.”
Being a “conservative liberal” or a “liberal conservative” will not make you very popular in today’s environment because people expect you to be one or the other. And they may even REQUIRE you to have disdain for “the other!” That is neither welcoming nor loving.
If you have the courage to reject the current trend of groupthink, please come and join us!
It’s Jesus that makes the difference!
