The late, great Southern Gospel singer, Jake Hess, recorded a song entitled, “Faith Unlocks the Door.”
The message is that we can pray until our knees wear holes into the carpet, but if those prayers are not accompanied by FAITH, they will go nowhere.
Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door.
Words are so easily spoken,
Prayer without faith is like a boat without an oar.
Have faith when you speak to the Master,
That’s all He’ll ask you for.
Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door.
The song goes on to say, “Prayer without faith is like a boat without an oar.” Those who love to kayak may easily understand this analogy.
Prayer is a Lot Like Kayaking.
Kayaking is an enjoyable form of exercise. And you can’t kayak without oars. In still waters, the kayak without oars will just sit pretty much idle. In rough waters, the kayak without oars may dangerously take you to where you do not want to go! Such it is with our prayers!
The boat without an oar is a wonderful analogy. But the main analogy in the song is that of a key: “Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door.”
With new technology, the next generation may not ever see an old-fashioned physical key. But presently, a key is still required to unlock many doors. But will the key alone unlock the door? No!
To unlock the door, you must use the key. And yet, the key alone is not sufficient to unlock the door! For the key to unlock the door, it must have accurate cuts that match the tumblers inside the lock.
A key without being cut is called a “blank.” In our earthly lives, Prayer is the only the key to Heaven. But without FAITH, that key is just a blank!
Know these truths:
- Without faith, it is impossible to please God. You must believe that He IS, and that He is a REWARDER of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
- Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)
- We must continually look unto Jesus, because He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
So, don’t let your prayer be a blank key! Make sure your PRAYER KEY is properly cut to the tumblers of Heaven’s lock with believing FAITH!
